Process Overview

How an LNG Filling
Station Works

Supervised end-to-end by the PLC station control system, from tanker unloading through to vehicle charging.

01
LNG Tanker Truck
Tanker arrives on site and connects to the unloading skid.
02
LNG Storage Tank
Cryogenic liquid transfers into the vacuum-insulated storage vessel.
03
LNG Pump Skid
The submersible pump pressurizes and delivers LNG toward the dispenser.
04
LNG Dispenser
Metered LNG is dispensed through vacuum-insulated hose to the vehicle.
05
Vehicle Filled
Fill completes automatically to the preset level with vapor return balanced.

Four Core Functions of the LNG Filling System

Unloading

Pressure-equalized transfer from tanker to storage tank, self-pressurized or pump-assisted.

Filling

Precooled, metered delivery from storage tank to vehicle cylinder via mass flowmeter.

Pressure Regulation

Self-pressurization, pump-assisted pressurization and saturation adjustment keep delivery stable.

Safety Venting

Automatic relief valves, emergency shutdown and gas-detection interlocks protect the station.

Technical Foundation

Understanding LNG

LNG is natural gas cooled to a cryogenic liquid for compact, efficient transport and storage. Knowing its properties — alongside the media it is often handled with — is the foundation for safe station design and operation.
